Q: Ukraine is not a safe place for production business. Mafia is everywhere. The traffic is not safe as well. Is that true?

A: No. Please, don’t read that stuff in the newspapers. Propaganda changes your mind about us. If you compare criminal statistic you will find Kiev is much safer than Paris, New York, Moscow... Mafia is busy with politics now. Mafia is the system which prints our newspapers. When you watch TV news with a huge strike in Ukraine be sure that it’s only one street and one square event – all others are available for shooting at the same time .

Q: Ukraine is a corrupted country. It makes production in Ukraine very unsafe.

A: First of all corruption is a worldwide problem. Of course, it exists in Ukraine as well. But take a look from the other side. We can make any permit to shoot on the street during one day, we can find better prices than official ones. Actually a bribe is a tool to decide problems. If you would like you can use it. If you wouldn’t like you don’t. Sometimes in our business it’s very helpful.

Q: Financial crisis makes Ukraine very criminal country.

A: Ukrainian people are Slavic nation. We are very tolerant nation (even comparing with European people). Ukraine was never a rich country. So people here are used to live in unassuming style. Comparing with USA we have only 3% of unemployment level (USA has 4%) in February 2009. Yes, the financial crisis cut activity on local market. So now we have a lot of professional people and available resources for any production job. Budgets dropped down.... So just good news for now. And no criminal.

Q: We heard Ukrainian production stuff is very unprofessional.

A: Well... after the soviet film industry dead in 1991, Ukrainian production market was reborn in 1998 (when first private film production company appeared). So if someone was in Ukraine around 1999-2002 he/she could find out that local stuff was learning and crew was young and unexperienced. But time goes on. 10 years experience is not so few for the most of people in that business. Additionally, most of the crew is English speaking. Of course In Hollywood they are cool, but not so cheap, aren’t they?   You can hardly find those professionals for such rates in all over the world. To make everything clear we made feedback system from our clients.

Q: How I can trust you. You would like to sell your bloody service.

A: There are 2 ways to insure. The first is you can bring small project first to check everything or just come to Ukraine for 2-3 days before decision (or just a weekend) and we can meet to present you key crew, equipment, facilities. Foreign producers of feature films are usually doing that to decide. An other option is remote one. We can provide you the list of European directors, DoPs, production companies and key suppliers (like Arri, Kodak, big postproduction networks who has branches in Ukraine) who can share their experience of working in Ukraine with Anomaly Film. We have at least 2-3 contacts/partners in every big European country.

Q: Ukraine. Sounds boring. My client/agency/director will kill me.

A: If you told like this – you’ve never been to Ukraine. You can find here whatever you need for modest money. Night life, cool girls, vodka, Ukrainian cuisine is really something... or just a fun . And very very hospitable people around.
